3rd Annual Shattering Barriers Symposium: The Color of Human Trafficking

S.H.A.D.E., (Survivors Healing, Advising, and Dedicated to Empowerment Movement) is a survivor based advocacy organization that empowers survivors of sexual exploitation, human trafficking, & domestic violence. We believe that Survivor Leadership is paramount to creating positive change & empowerment within & outside of the anti-trafficking movement.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, we are holding our 3rd Annual Shattering Barriers Symposium: The Color of Human Trafficking. This symposium continues to be the first of its kind provided to the public, in that it is 100% Survivor-thriver led, Survivor-thriver organized, & it features all Survivor-thriver speakers. We are excited to have secured a roster of Survivor-thriver expert speakers who possess years of experience as abolitionists in the fight against human trafficking.

This is guaranteed to be a day full of inspiration, deep dialogue, & innovative learning!

This training symposium will be focused on the effects of sexism & racism upon various cultures, as well as upon society as a whole.

All are welcome to register & attend this event, it is open to students, community members, service providers, law enforcement, the healthcare industry, etc.

Light breakfast refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Monterey County Human Trafficking Symposium 2020

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Join Community Human Services in partnership with the Monterey County Office of Education & the Monterey County Department of Social Services as we host the first ever Human Trafficking Symposium. Event will inform leaders on the issue of human trafficking & sexual exploitation of children in Monterey County. Learn how to identify, prevent, & help victims of human trafficking or exploitation.

The event is free of charge & open to all. Registration is required. Space is limited, please register to secure admission to the event.

Episode Description: "FRONTLINE and the Investigative Reporting Program at U.C. Berkeley tell the inside story of Guatemalan teens who were forced to work against their will on an Ohio egg farm in 2014."

Antioch Community Awareness Day

The Contra Costa Human Trafficking Coalition, in collaboration with Antioch Police Department and Antioch City Council Member Monica Wilson invite members of the community to come together during Human Trafficking Awareness Month to help spread information and resources on the issue of human trafficking throughout Antioch. 

Volunteers will meet at 2pm at the Antioch Police Department Community Room. A brief presentation will be given and volunteers will be given information packets to distribute to local business. The information packet will include:

- Local statistics and information on trafficking in California and our county
- A "Learn the Signs"" handout with common indicators and red flags for recognizing if someone may be a victim of human trafficking
- Poster with National Human Trafficking Hotline reporting information for a business to post in a prominent area.

The Coalition will identify ideal business centers, shopping malls or other similar complexes where distrubution will occur. Identified areas will be divided amongst volunteers and volunteers can coordinate travel to the identified locations amongst themselves with their own transportation.

Volunteers are also encouraged to visit other local businesses or locations that they believe would be willing to post this hlepful information.
